Tribe Refugee Bellydancers

Welcome Tribe Refugees!

I am searching for antique / nostalgic / vintage looking costume items for my first solo . . I have discovered that it is nearly impossible to find off white/sephia/tan colored costume pieces so I think I might just be tied to my sewing machine making my own schtuff. oh jeez .. I'm a baby seamstress! Any recommendations?

Are you able to find what you want in white? And dye it? (Will depend on the fabrics and trims.)

you can use tea to "dye" whites and laces to make them look antique.

Thank you all for responding. I think I've got it together. Just went to the fabric store and found some yummy stuff and was able to find trinkets that I wanted at various Michaels stores. Just a few more items and I think I will be set. I will be tucking and pinning alot because I dont want to limit the fabric to just this costume :) Now, I just need to make my top and i'll be done!

I'll post pix :D

Have you tried tea staining items to look sepia or antiqued?

Sorry I can't help you with sewing advice ... as a performer ... I LOVE the nostalgic look ... but make sure you know your back-drop and lighting so your costume doesn't "fade into the background". If there is a chance of this with your color-scheme ... make sure you add a few "strong' colors or costume elements for dramatic effect.

Good luck!
