I have just started a new group, but whats the point without members? So I am looking for the more mature ladies here to join me in my new group.... ELDER BELLIES! Anyone interested? http://triberfugeebellydancers.ning.com/group/elderbellies
Hi Balefire. its a shame you don't live nearer lol.
this is why i created this group. I am a teacher and I find that ladies of a mature nature feel sort of out of place with these lithe young things, not that they are intimidated or jealous, its just that they are not on the same time path! I have taught all ages, groups from little 'uns of 7-8 up to 71 and there is a huge difference in techniques and styles needed for all the different ages. you wouldn't teach 20 year olds the same way you would teach 7 year olds. Each age group has different ways of seeing life and what they want from it. I want teachers to start teaching groups for the more mature lady. I think they deserve it! I'm not sure if this point of view is shared by all, but I have a class of ladies just like this and they were so eager to learn. Just because they are slightly older doesn't mean they don't want to have FUN!
To say my joints are aching would be an understatement! I spent the best part of 10 hours today spring cleaning my house. I have been meaning to do this for the past 3 weeks. What with 3 children at home from school for the summer holidays, and the mother in law staying because she fell and broke her arm. I just haven't had the time to give my house more than a lick and a prayer. Plus getting ready for and advertising my new classes has really stretched my time. But as I am 41, and I think I qualify as a mature woman I think that yes Qamar you could qualify too! Oh I dont believe I just gave away my age, I must be becoming mature!
Definatley interested. Although I'm in the UK I enjoy the networking and mutual support from groups such as this. I will be 50 in about 3 weeks and will be teaching my first class a few days before my birthday - an auspicious time!

Elder bellies I'm in! 42 and counting. I think we definitely can hold many entertaining chats about the perks, issues, situations and what-have-yas that mature dancers will encounter. Looking forward to it!
I hold my hand up and say it wasn't me who came up with the name Elder Bellies, That goes to a lady I taught last year who actually came up with the whole concept and name. At the time I wasn't able to act upon it. But a few weeks ago I was contacted by this ladies friend, and once again asked if I would create such a class, and of course I jumped at the idea! And with that the fist Elder Bellies class begins this Thursday! I just cant wait!
Ok, if so many youg-uns are joining, I guess I can too. ;) I'll be half century old at the end of this year. But I am very young as a belly dancer though -- just 2 years old in that regard. ;)
