Tribe Refugee Bellydancers

Welcome Tribe Refugees!

Well thats it Tribe is gone! I cant believe after all these years. I feel as though I have lost a Friend. Indeed I have lost many friends. There I was this morning trying to get onto Tribe after the down time this weekend to find the page no longer exists. I googled tribe and there on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribe.net In black and white "As of September 5, 2008, www.tribe.net no longer exists."

Okay Okay guys lets all give darren a chance here. Colo facility I am sure means a Colorado Facility. As person that has gone through a server transfer for a major oil company (and we had ton of money to do it) it was a nightmare. We moved things from Dallas to North Carolina. My guess he is waiting for a part called a "Box" but that is a total guess. We had to be down longer than what we wanted due to a "box" issue. Yes, we had to order new one unexpectantly. And the reason we did decide to move our servers was because our old provider had poor equipment which made our systems go down all the time. Since moving our servers to the new company we have not had a problem really with the servers dying on us. Before me moved it was a every week occurance now it has been a year and we have gone down maybe twice for about a minute or two. A server upgrade really does change things. Give a tribe a chance once it comes up.

Whoever said we weren't giving it a chance? People are just buggin' ... with good reason, ya know?

To be honest, I don't care if it comes back up or not, so I am not buggin'. Sounds mean, but, I have bigger things to bug out over these days. Life is too short. Tribe is just a message board. Not the end of the world.

I think colo is short for colocation facility... the place where they actually house all their servers and such. It's often located at some place where two electrical grids overlap or something so that a power outage would be less likely to effect their clients. And it's usually equipped with all kinds of anti-oxygen gas in a sealed chamber to put out fires. So this would mean, if it's true, that they're in between homes right now--literally.

Aside from the community like at EDBD, I'll be really sad to loose Tribe for all of the info that is on there... especially the Biz tribe with so many discussions & resources, and the Makeup tribe too. I've learned more from Tribe that from anywhere else. But life will go on, and thank the goodness for Ning. :)

Kasia Ali, I mean no disrespect, but frankly I don't care what the reasons are for tribes downtimes.

You say:

"Before me moved it was a every week occurance now it has been a year and we have gone down maybe twice for about a minute or two."

Let me say for the record that this really is a load of crap, since this last year I've had more problems getting on and staying on tribe then EVER before. It's been down A LOT in the last year! I'm not sure how you can say it's only been maybe twice for a minute or two. Whatever! I don't care if tribe comes up or stays down, I don't care if they get the best server in the world and it never goes down again, I don't care if the format is the most wonderful thing since Wonder Bread, if it comes back up I will get on only to get what I need out of my profile and delete my account. Tribe has sucked for the last 2 years and it got much worse this last year. I gave it a chance and it failed miserably.

People are upset and with good reason. So, please don't make light of the situation by trying to tell us more of the same old excuses that most of us just don't care about anymore.

Tribe owners should have seen that they built this amazing community of networks and they should have done something to be able to handle it all a long time ago and they didn't. This is what they are left with.

I'm liking ning and I don't think it'll be that difficult of a transition at all.

(waves to Helen) Hiya darlin'! =)

She wasn't talking about Tribe though, she was talking about her own company's servers after they swapped.

But yeah, I'm getting really freaking sick of this. I haven't had access to tribe....since Thursday? -_- I miss my friends. LoL

I'm glad to see a lot of Tribe refugees here (waving at Zingara!!), but there were a lot of non-bellydance Tribes on Tribe that I miss..
I enjoyed the sense of community on Tribe - and hated the unreliability.

Okay, I just cut and pasted what it displayed when I clicked onto tribe.:
tribe.net is undergoing maintenance downtime.
We are performing scheduled maintenance.

On September 4th, we moved colo facilities. In that move, our storage device (SAN) was damaged. We are still trying to repair it and get the site working, but we've had to call in experts. All ETAs from here on out are dependant upon those experts.

ETA for return of the site is 8:20pm PST on September 9. Feel free to play Connect 4 in the meantime.

So everyone calm down. Yes, there are obviously some problems, but NO, tribe is not dead (at least not yet). The management at tribe has at least been making an attempt to communicate what is going on and is asking for our patience.
Like all of you, I'm not a very patient person, but what the heck, I figure, why not just let them sort it out.

I can wait on Tribe. I hope they can sort out whatever it is, but we can all hang here just as easily. Maybe the site has problems because we posted one too many bellydance pictures. ;)
Honestly, I'm more concerned about Hurricaine Ike right now.
I live in Texas and we're just watching and waiting to see where this storm goes.

You know what I think I dislike most about what things like this happen? When strangers, who I don't know a thing about, tell me, to calm down, or tell others to calm down - or how they can and can't feel about crap like this.

If people want to be upset, and pissy and bitchy and they want to rant and say how they really feel... let em.

Aw, Miss Boo. I hope nothing I wrote offended you. I wasn't trying to tell anyone how to feel. Sorry if I miscommunicated.
~hugs~

Don't calm down then. Go ahead and have a brain hemorrhage about tribe if that's what you want (though I'd really hate to see that, honest). I am just trying to tell all of the "Chicken Littles" out there that the sky isn't really falling.................. it's just a bit stormy.:) Maybe it'll fall tomorrow ;)
