Tribe Refugee Bellydancers

Welcome Tribe Refugees!

Well thats it Tribe is gone! I cant believe after all these years. I feel as though I have lost a Friend. Indeed I have lost many friends. There I was this morning trying to get onto Tribe after the down time this weekend to find the page no longer exists. I googled tribe and there on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribe.net In black and white "As of September 5, 2008, www.tribe.net no longer exists."

to miss boo, if anyone bashes you for wishing the potentially inevitable would hurry up, they're silly =p it's just a site, not the rainforest. i do love tribe though because there are dancers from all over the globe there, and you can talk to someone like rachel brice or princess farhana as easily as you would talk to the chick dancing next to you in class. which is gnarly beyond gnarly.
i seriously DISLIKE the interface here, too, seems to be a very common experience people are having.
but i mean, the sooner we can mourn tribe and move on, this site will probably become easier because it will be all that's left =p when you HAVE to get used to something, you do with flying colors, you know? =p
tribe just sent me a message as a "new message" that was sent back in june. whenever i go into groups that have new messages, they aren't actually new messages =p so at this point, i don't find any use for going over there. like madam firefly said, i'm over it.
there's myspace or there's ning, and i am slowly getting more comfortable with ning. it is annoying that there's no overview of new posts. it would be cool if the homepage forum could be replaced by some sort of overview, if there even IS one on ning.

but whaddya gonna do?

You are so right Elle. We do adjust to what is available. I am usually a very patient person, but when I pay $50 to help out tribe and all I've been getting is a lot of down time and now everything lost since June 13th including my premium membership!!!!

I think I'll be doing some adjusting and sticking to here and checking out My Space and such. I hope to reconnect with my peeps!

cripes yeah, i feel heinous for anyone who paid for a premium membership. SUCKS.
there should be some way of getting your money back, because what you paid for never came through.

I paid for a while. Then I canceled, and I got a refund. So glad I did.

Tribe has become frustrating beyond belief! Now, we're back in time to June. I guess some IT admin really screwed up their backups and that's the last full save they have on tape somewhere. Who knows if they have any incrementals that can be applied to bring our stuff to a more current state.

OK... I apologize for the above geekiness, but it comes with my day job.

I'm not crazy with the ning format either. I like being able to pull up a page and see which tribes (groups) have new comments and then be able to zero in on those. This just seems clunky (NOT a technical term).

Hey, but at least youse guys are here!!!!

Yeah, I gotta be honest here... Tribe is so annoying for me right now, I'm not even bothering trying to do anything with it. Images are missing, when I make a post in a Tribe, it doesn't go through, when I try to post to my blog, I get an error message... what a train wreck.

I'm starting to get used to Ning now. Really. At first I was frustrated with it the way many other have been. But now I'm learning my way around, and soon, I won't mind it one bit.

This is a message that came from the "only tech guy" at tribe. I received this from David in Istanbul:

from Darren, our only tech guy--
Data Loss! Fri, October 10, 2008 - 11:59 AM
Yes, I know all about it.

No, it's not permanent. I'm taking the site offline tonight to fix it.

Pretty much everything from today will be lost though -- i figure this is a minor inconvenience but at least I can pretend a whole day of complaining never happened. I am busy fixing stuff. Supposedly there is an announcement coming later today or over the weekend about tribe.net's future, cross your fingers.

Please XPOST this message. A LOT.

Yes, I think the summer flew by too fast, so if I set my calendar according to Tribe, can I do it over? ;)

Maybe its not a bug, but a feature -- time travel!

I was just looking here to see if anyone had yet heard this "announcement" Darren referred to. With Tribe reverting to June, I can't log on, as its right back in the time period in which my password had been changed but because of my particular email configuration at the time I couldn't receive the email telling what the temporary password was... so for a couple of months I didn't know what my temporary password was. Well, my guess it's that password again and I don't know what it is again!

And, to make things worse, the functionality to allow me to 'retrieve' may password is not working now! When I try to get it to send me yet another temporary password, I just get one of those error messages about how "we did something wrong." So personally, I can't even log on now. So, to make the long story short, if there is an announcement on Tribe itself, I probably won't see it...

So if there an announcement, can someone post it here on Ning? Thanks!
